The Thesis Presentation

As a requirement to finish college every student should submit a thesis/study/feasibility. In my program, I was required to join a group and the thesis should be focus on Civil Engineering subjects. Contruction and Transportation is usually the two options, there are more options but I forgot the rest maybe because I have no interest in them.

The Group
It wasn't hard to pick group members because there are many students signing up and are really looking forward for graduation. Our group is consist of five members including me. Four are Filipinos and One Korean. I love our group because we all are very hardworking and we learn to practice our oral english through our Korean groupmate.

The Thesis
We chose transportation as the focus of our thesis and we pick bicycle specifically. What we were trying to aim or our objective is to evaluate on how the bicyle would fair as an alternate transportation system in our country. We prepared survey questionnaires as the main tool for gathering datas. Unlike in other countries, bicycles are not registered here in our country therefore we have to find people who are actually using a bicycle or owned a bicycle.

The Moment of Truth(The Presentation)
After all the preparations were done and all the requirements had been submitted, it's time now to depend our thesis. We were to present in front of three faculty members, who were assigned as panelist, they will be the one to assess our thesis to give feedback and recommendations. There were many unfortunate events that happened before the said presentation. The professor who was supposed to be our adviser during the defense is still not yet to be seen. The cd that will be used for the presentation was corrupted, good thing we had a back up copy for the presentation. I was the speaker for the group so I tend to answer all the questions.

The Results
I was not that confident with the way I presented the thesis but I did answer all the questions. In the end we got a minor revision and a major revision. It was all good, I prefer having to revised something than to change the topic and present and defend it again.

The Might of Ondoy

It was a wednesday night when it started raining. I was still in school by nine pm, trapped and wet because I forgot to bring my umbrella with me. It was almost ten pm when I reached the train station. As soon as I got home I opened my computer to check some social networking sites and messages on my mail. I never really cared about the rain because it really is rainy season here in our country. Two days passed, it only rained during the night and I thought that's just natural. I never knew there was a storm because I rarely watch the news nowadays.

Friday night, I arrived home from school late. It was really raining hard and as usual I was really wet because I was really hard headed and forgot to bring an umbrella again. It was a cold night and it kept raining even before I got to bed. Then morning came, it was really cold and it's still raining hard. I got out of bed to make some coffee but then I was shocked in what lies in front of me. Our dogs were howling and their wet. I was standing in a pool of dirty water inside my house, the cable tv and phone lines were down. The streets were flooded and many vehicles and people were stranded. Luzon, one of the three great islands of the Philippines, was declared in a state of calamity because 26 areas were flooded including the metroes.

I was a bit glad that I can still connect on the internet the whole day yesterday but I was saddened when I saw the internet news. Almost 40 people were declared dead or was missing because the flood reach the heights of a standard two storey building. The search and rescue team could not attend to all the people who needed rescue. 400 people wer evacuated from their houses but there still many who were trapped above their roofs with no food and shelter to protect them in the cold rain.

Today, people are slowly recuperating but some of them are still trapped inside office buildings and above their roofs. My house is not flooded anymore and the cable tv and phone lines are now up. From time to time it still rains but not that hard as it was yesterday. The tropical storm was named Ondoy. Ondoy was just a tropical storm but it did cause Filipinos so much trouble than the previous storms before it.
